Effects of new quinolones on transepithelial electrical potential difference of tracheal mucosa in vivo.

چکیده
Superfusion of canine tracheal mucosa with 100 microg each of grepafloxacin and ciprofloxacin per ml reduced the electrical transepithelial potential difference in vivo by more than 50%. This effect was dose dependent, specific for new quinolones, and inhibited by Cl channel blockers, indicating that new quinolones attenuate Cl secretion across the airway epithelium.

Cholinergic control of rabbit tracheal transepithelial potential difference in vivo.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of the autonomic nervous system in the regulation of airway epithelial ion transport in vivo. Rabbits were anaesthetized and mechanically-ventilated through a cannula inserted above the carina. The upper tracheal mucosa was exposed, and the electrical potential difference (PD) between the mucosal surface and the submucosal space was conti...

متن کاملCigarette smoke inhibition of ion transport in canine tracheal epithelium.
Inhalation of cigarette smoke is known to impair pulmonary mucociliary clearance. Active ion transport by airway epithelium plays an important role in maintaining effective mucociliary clearance by regulating the volume and composition of the airway secretions. To determine the effect of cigarette smoke on airway epithelial ion transport, the electrical properties and transepithelial Na and Cl ...
متن کاملMeasurement of human nasal potential difference to teach the theory of transepithelial fluid transport.
We describe a novel student course in membrane physiology in which students record their own nasal potential difference, i.e., the transepithelial potential difference of the respiratory mucosa in the nose. The nasal potential difference monitors directly, and in vivo, changes in the apical cell membrane potential of the respiratory mucosa induced by activators and inhibitors of ion channel act...
متن کاملQuinolones: Recent Structural and Clinical Developments
Quinolones are a very important family of antibacterial agents that are widely prescribed for the treatment of infections in humans. Since their discovery in the early 1960s, the quinolone group of antibacterials has generated considerable clinical and scientific interest. Two major groups of compounds have been developed from the basic molecule: quinolones and naphthyridones. The 4-pyridone-3-...
